Fracture Care and Trauma
Orthopaedic trauma care involves the treatment of fractures that occur at the same time as other injuries. This type of injury often results from an accident, such as a fall or car accident.
Treatment depends on the type of fracture and the severity of the injury. A simple break may be treated with a sling, ice, and rest. In more complicated injuries, the bone may require a realignment in the emergency room. Surgery may also be required to realign the broken bone or to implant wires, plates, nails, or screws to maintain proper alignment during healing.
